MARL E-Newsletter October 2008
Adoptions
Can you believe it? Fourteen adoptions in one day! Saturday, October 11, fourteen animals found new loving forever homes. Two were adopted from Petsmart and the rest from the shelter. Our adoptions have really gone through the roof since moving into the new shelter.
Thank You Volunteers
MARL would like to take this opportunity to thank and recognize some of our unsung heroes. Sue Haynes is in charge of the animals and volunteers that go to Petsmart and she has been doing it for more years than I can remember. I do not know what we would do without her. Countless animals have found homes because of Sue's dedication and love of our four legged friends. To Sue and her volunteers, please know how much we appreciate all that you do.
Another volunteer, Paul Maloney and his wife Traci, is dedicated to catching strays that are wandering our highways and byways. You may catch a glimpse of him in his white pick-up truck with MARL Field Services written on it. Paul spends most weekend catching strays and is quite good at it. He has saved so many animals from being hit by cars and/or starving to death. He is truly a God send to us.
The Animal Rescue Site $100,000 Shelter+ Challenge — brought to you by Petfinder.
The Animal Rescue Site is awarding $100,000 in grants to eligible Petfinder member rescue organizations. The grand prize is a $25,000 grant. Just imagine how many animals we could help for $25,000. The rescue organizations with the most votes will win. We want that to be MARL. You can click to help animals at www.theanimalrescuesite.com - - - and then vote for your favorite participating shelter (that's MARL). Clicking and voting are free, with no registration required. You can vote once every day during the Challenge.
So please visit www.theanimalrescuesite.com to learn more. Its free, and only takes a moment of your time. We want to be the one to win in Mississippi. Thank you. Remember, you can vote every day.

Brochure will be in the mail soon, so start lining up those pledges. Strut Your Mutt is a fund raiser for MARL. Registration fee will be $10 at the gate.
• October is Adopt A Shelter Dog Month and we are off to a good start. If any of your friends are looking to add a little love in their lives, tell them to come to the shelter. We have some beautiful animals. I just adopted a cat from here. It is a "Water cat" No it's not a new breed, it just loves the water. I will have to say that it has taken a while for me to get use to taking a shower with a cat in the back of the tub playing with the soap suds and water.
At the Shelter
With cold weather coming (We hope) we will need small tee shirts and sweaters for our small dogs. This place is cold!
Needed are:
• Paper towels, paper towels and more paper towels,
• Gift certificates for Lowes or Office Depot
Our greatest need is financial, it is your donations that make such a difference in the lives of so many animals. With a full time veterinarian on staff, we are able to treat so many more animals. If you would like to make a donation to help the animals you can mail it to: MARL, 5221 Greenway Drive Ext., Jackson, MS 39204 or go to our website at: www.msarl.org and click on the Guidestar button.
Thank you for all you do for MARL and the animals in our care.
