MARL E-NEWSLETTER - NOVEMBER 29, 2007

The holidays are officially here and the staff at the MARL have been busy decorating the shelter. We want to thank Barbara Barton for donating our beautiful tree and all the dog and cat ornaments. Our shelter looks so beautiful all decked out in its Christmas finest.

Keeping the holidays in mind, we are having Pet Photo's with Santa on Saturday, December 1st and 8th from 10:30 - 3:30 here at the shelter. For $15 you get six 4 x 6 color photo's, with easy pick-up at Deville Camera at Deville Plaza. Deville donates all the processing.

Circle your calendar, it's a Red Letter Day. Our official Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting will be at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, December 14th and continue through Saturday, the 15th. Plenty of activities for the children. We hope you can arrange your schedule so that you can attend and take the grand tour. We are so proud of our new facility, it is really awesome! It is only because of you that we are here. Thank you so very much.

Want to make your holiday stress free and easy? The Mississippi Animal Rescue League is registered with www.Igive.com. You can do all your shopping at www.igive.com from more than 685 stores, including PETsMART, PETCO, Old Navy, Barnes and Noble, Lands End, Best Buy, Home Depot and even Neiman Marcus and Sak's. MARL gets up to 16% or more from each purchase. So get a cup of coffee and a comfortable chair and turn the computer on. Such an easy way to help the animals and get your Christmas shopping done at the same time.

It's been "Pet Mania" here at the shelter. Between last Friday and Sunday, we did 22 adoptions. On Sundays this place is packed with people wanting to adopt. The dog and cat rooms were nearly empty by closing time on Sunday. It really raises our spirits to see so many of our animals get forever, loving homes. Please tell anyone that is looking for a companion animal to look here first. They can check out our website at www.msarl.org and click on Petfinders. We have all kinds, purebreds and mutts and cats and kittens in all sizes and colors.

This beautiful young lady is a Lab mix and is very loving. She is a real tail wagger and has been here a long time. She would make a wonderful pet and companion to someone who has a fenced in yard and time to play ball. She would love to sleep at the bottom of your bed. She is in Run # A-13 Please adopt her, she is soooo loving!

Cold weather is on its way and while we take time to protect our pipes from freezing, we sometimes forget that our animals feel the cold as well. The best way to keep your cat warm is to keep him inside. By law your animal needs shelter from the elements. This means a doghouse for your outside dog. Go to our website for further cold weather tips. www.msarl.org. Remember, if you are cold, more than likely so are your pets. Short haired dogs may need a sweater or coat.

Antifreeze, while essential to a car's cooling system, is very dangerous to your pets, even if they drink a small amount. Be sure to clean up any spills and consider using products that contain propylene glycol rather than ethylene glycol.

Items needed at the Shelter:
• Printer cartridges: #HP 26 &27, HP #22 & 21, HP #93 & 98 and HP 74 & 75.
• Dry dog and puppy food, dry cat and kitten food.
• Desperately need igloo type dog houses for our cruelty cases or fiberglass dog houses.
• Gulf rye grass seed.
• 9 - 12 % sweet feed & crimped oats.
• Salt licks.
• Kodak photo paper.
• Square bales of hay.
• Bright white copy paper.
• Paper towels, paper towels and more paper towels.
• Toilet paper and laundry detergent.

Well I've said enough. Take you 3 days to read all this, so take care and we hope all of you have a wonderful holiday. Remember to come get your Pet's Photo taken with Santa and be sure not to miss our Grand Opening.

We thank you all for your belief and support of MARL.
