MARL E-NEWSLETTER NOVEMBER 13, 2007

Trying to get everything together for Strut Your Mutt this Saturday, November 17th. The Theme this year is "Giving Thanks" as we have so much to be thankful for; being in our new building and having so much more room to care for the animals for one. We have additional staff and people are coming from all over to see the shelter and adopt our animals. We are truly blessed.

The Theme for the costume contest is Pilgrims Pride, so we hope to see the dogs dressed up as turkeys, pilgrims, Indians or anything to do with the First Thanksgiving.

The holiday season is fast approaching and we are starting to get ready to cook and decorate for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Please remember that some holiday decorations and treats can be hazardous to our pets. Certain plants such as Mistletoe berries, and the leaves, stems and flowers of the Poinsettia can harm your pets.

I know all of our pets just beg us for the leftovers, don't do it! Well maybe one small slice of turkey (No ham, they cannot digest it). Foods and drinks such as alcoholic beverages, seeds and pits from fruits, chocolate and nuts can really make your pet sick. So keep an eye on the little sad-eyed beggars and be strong and don't give in.

Mark the calendar, Pet Photo's with Santa will be Saturday, December 1st and 8th. It is scheduled for 10:30 - 3:30, here at the new shelter and for $15 you get six 4 X 6 prints of your pet and easy pick up at Deville Camera who donates all the film and processing.

We finally have some landscaping plants in next to the shelter, and had some dusk to dawn lights put in. Talk about dark out here! We still have a lot of work that has to be done, but we're getting there. We are working on getting our "Night drop off" building finished and we are enlarging our livestock receiving and holding areas. Seems that we are getting horses in every week. Need about 12 Livestock Panels - - available at Mississippi Serum.

Our web site is doing fantastic. Special thanks to Alex Jones at NETDOOR and Ric Wooten, one of our adoption counselors, for getting our pets on PetFinders. In the last seven days we've had over 2,000 hits on our site. The lobby stays busy with people coming to look for that special companion.

Items needed at the Shelter:
• Small tee shirts and sweaters for our small dogs.
• Fabric made Cat Cubes.
• Bright color copy paper (Florescent would be great).
• HP Ink Cartridges # 74 black and #75 tri-colored.
• Dog houses, especially Igloos or the fiberglass ones. We use these all winter long for the animals on our cruelty cases.
• Grass hay to use in the dog houses.
• Triple 13 fertilizer.
• Square bales of hay.

Hope all of you have a very happy holiday. Don't eat too much.

We thank you all for your belief and support of MARL.
