It feels so good to be in our new shelter. We are still unpacking and finding places to put things, but we are getting there. I did get my six foot closet that I asked for and it is filling up fast.
We are very fortunate that one of our volunteers is a well known Mississippi artist and has painted the pictures for our lobby. All the picture are of shelter animals and the latest one is of Fred our shelter dog and a friend.
Some of you may have received a few strange e-mails a week or so ago. I sent out an e-mail to about 15 people and somehow a hacker got into the computer and sent e-mails all over the place. No rhyme or reason as to whom they went to, but it created havoc on my computer and at NETDOOR, our ISP. Took about five days to get it all corrected and I apologize for any inconvenience it may have caused you.
Right now we have a special needs dog in the shelter needing a foster home for her and her five three week old babies. No small children in the household. If you can help please call Heather or Ric at 601-969-1631. Once the pups are between 6 & 7 weeks of age you can bring them back to us and we will put them up for adoption. These are very adoptable pets.
FYI: For those of you who are interested in volunteering for the Mississippi Animal Rescue League, we will be having a volunteer meeting on Thursday, August 9th at 6:00 p.m. here at the shelter. Agenda will include Volunteer opportunities, Strut Your Mutt and our up-coming garage sale. Directions are: I-20 west to exit 40-A (Raymond - Hwy 18) the exit will bring you up on Hwy. 18, at the first traffic light turn right onto Greenway Drive and follow 1/2 mile. We will be on your left and we share a gravel driveway with Carey Construction. You will see their big red and yellow sign first, we are at the top of the hill.
Our Tree of Hope has just gone up in the vestibule. If you would like to purchase a leaf in honor or memory of a loved one, please contact Aileene at 601-969-1671. Each leaf is $150 and is French Cut in design. Each leaf can hold 3 lines.
It's not too late to get tickets for the FUR BALL 2007 that will be held at the Sparkman Auditorium at the Agricultural Museum, Thursday, August 16th. Tickets are $75 per person or $125 per couple. Entertainment by Eddie Cotton and our Celebrity Bones will be available as well. For further information call: 6 01-607-3411.
Most people think of cool weather when school starts, not in Mississippi. August and September are two of our hottest months. Please make sure your outdoor pets have plenty of fresh cool water, leave pets at home when going shopping, the inside of your vehicle becomes deadly in this heat in a matter of minutes. Also for those that like to let their dogs ride in the back of the pick-up - - don't! The floor of the truck bed can severely burn their paws.
Fleas and ticks are abundant in Mississippi, please contact your veterinarian for prevention treatment. It's not expensive. Some over the counter flea and tick products can be toxic.
Fred says we need paper towels, paper towels and more paper towels, clay cat litter, puppy toys, crimped oats (It seems like we are getting horses in daily) hay, rubbing alcohol, laundry detergent, toilet paper, air freshener, and lots of 40 pound bags of top soil.
Plus we need the straight cut shredded paper (not the cross cut). Of course we always need financial assistance, especially now that we are in a much larger building. If you would like to donate please mail donations to: MARL, 5221 Greenway Drive Ext., Jackson, MS 39204 or you can go to our website at www.msarl.org and click on the Guidestar button and donate on-line.
