House Bill # 1540, introduced by Representative Angela Cockerham, is the result of almost 3 years of work by Rescue Organizations, Hunters, Breeders, Trainers, Veterinarians, the Miss. Board of Animal Health and others. Deadline to get out of committee is Jan. 30th, 2007.
We believe this carefully structured bill gives legal means to protect animals. While it is also a bill that protects the individuals rights. And is specific in its provision that if a person will provide adequate food, clean water, shelter and veterinary care, when needed, there should be no concerns regarding this bill. Coalition, legal, and judicial advisors have assured us that anyone who simply cares for their animlas in a minimum way is in compliance with this bill. Any one who does not support minimus care for animals is truly engaged in animal cruelty and neglect.
The animals of Mississippi and their owners desperately need your help NOW !!! If this bill does not come out of committee before the deadline, animals and animal welfare workers will go another year with cruel treatment and neglect.
Here is how you can be a part of this effort. Listed below are the members of the House Agriculture Committee. If you will call the House Switchboard at 601-359-3770 You can leave a message for two Representatives at a time. If your representative is on this committee call him and the Chairman, Blaine "Bo" Eaton or call the ones with one or more of you initials. The switchboard takes the messages and delivers them to the Representatives.
When you call here is a format you may use:
